Decorating A Tiered Centerpiece Cake Stand

One of my favorite posts to write are my 5 minute decorating/styling posts.  These are decorating/styling tips that are so easy that they literally take 5 minutes. Last week I gave a talk to a group of ladies in my hometown and I shared some super easy 5 minute fall decorating tricks and I thought I would pass those tips on to you guys today.

Whether for entertaining or just incorporating pops of fall into your home, these quick tricks are easy!

Fresh Fall Flowers

One of the fastest ways to add a pop of fall into your decor is with fresh fall grocery store flowers (with a twist).  I'll show you the "twist" part in a moment.  One of the staple flowers that you'll always find year round in the grocery stores are Alstroemeria Lilies that come in a variety of colors. For fall quick decorating, I like to use these Alstroemeria colors below.

Purple and White

By themselves the Alstroemeria are beautiful and so easy. However, I wanted to show you some very quick ways you can style these flowers or any flowers for your kitchen, dining room table or on a coffee table or entry way table in a taller vase.

One option is to use a simple cake stand and layer the flowers on the stand with pumpkins and pinecones like this:

Again, any fall flowers would work and I just put the vase of flowers in the middle of the cake stand and mixed in different sized pumpkins and pinecones.

This just takes a few minutes but it makes a beautiful fall centerpiece.

Another option is instead of a cake stand, layer everything and add a candle on a round tray like this:

The round tray helps contain all the items and also helps to give you a guide for styling. Better yet, trays and cake stands are still small enough that you have room to eat around the table and you don't have to remove the centerpiece. Again, this look could also be done on a coffee or side table, entry way and on a kitchen island.

If you want something your centerpiece to be more dramatic, go clip some greenery from your yard and mix it into your grocery store bouquet.

Here's a closer look so you can see how I just mixed the greenery in with the flowers (I found a shrub that had green seeds, which looks so pretty).

Decorating with Platters

You will notice with today's post that not only are these tips quick 5 minute decorating ideas but I also like to use what I already have like cake stands, trays, tiered stands (next section) and platters. I have a ton of platters and have found that they are fantastic for incorporating into seasonal decor. Let me show you!

One of my favorite platters to use for decorating (and entertaining) is this white one that I bought at At Home that I love!

Large white platter

Platters are perfect for layering in seasonal items like pumpkins and pinecones for fall, pine greenery candles and ornaments for Christmas and large round moss balls mixed for year round. Here I began styling the platter with flowers in a white utensil holder (it's amazing what can be used for flower vases).

I then simply filled the planter with pumpkins and pinecones. This took me just a couple minutes and it makes for a beautiful centerpiece or something that would look festive on a kitchen island, coffee table, etc…

Another way to layer the platter is without flowers just by stacking pumpkins, pinecones and you can slip in fresh greenery as well.

Decorating with Tiered Stands

I also decorate seasonally with tiered stands a lot. Tiered stands are great for everything and they make for a fast an easy centerpiece on my kitchen table, my buffet in my dining room or my kitchen island.

I have several tiered stands but my marble one is my favorite!

Using tiered stands for decorating

To make a fast fall centerpiece on a tiered stand, I mixed in fall flowers, a candle, pumpkins, green apples, grapes, pinecones, breadsticks and small appetizer plates.

Layering with smaller bowls adds more layers and contains fruit, nuts or whatever you want to use. The great part is this is a pretty centerpiece but if I need a quick desert tray or appetizer tray, I'm ready just by switching out a couple things.

Last year at Christmas, I used an old galvanized metal tiered stand that I spray painted white on my buffet in our dining room for our Christmas dinner.

You can see I mixed in a lot of fresh greenery (from my backyard) bowls of ornaments, faux fruit (pears), white painted pinecones and a mini Christmas tree.

If you're going to put candles on a tired stand, put them at the top so they won't burn anything.

Decorating with Large Trays

Last week, I shared a post on decorating a dining table for fall using large trays. Of course, this will take a little more than 5 minutes but it won't take long at all and it makes for a beautiful centerpiece no matter what season or holiday. I wanted to add it here for those of you that missed that post here.

Whether you buy a long tray or make one yourself like I did here using a piece of plywood covered with wallpaper, the tray is your guide for layering down the center of a table.

I start with the tray.

I then add the tallest element (in this case a pumpkin) in the center to begin layering. I then add the rest of the pumpkins and turn them different angles and mix in greenery and pinecones.

Remember to look for fresh greenery in your yard or if you don't have any greenery, use faux greenery like faux eucalyptus or asparagus fern.  If you don't have pinecones in your yard, you can find bags of them at Walmart or your local craft store.

Long trays are great for layering different size candles as well. You could begin by layering candles and then adding smaller pumpkins, pinecones, greenery and acorns. Easy and simple! 🙂

Well friends, I hope there is something here today that you can use this fall or for Thanksgiving. I also hope I showed you that there is no need to buy anything new. Just get creative with what you have and it will be beautiful!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Cheers!
